310

They began just as he was driving up the hill, lighting up the sky as if it were day time. Finally, the New Year. New life, new friends, new classes. Generally a new start all together. Fireworks. He never really liked them. He wasn't scared of them, no. They just reminded him of...things. The last time he was seeing the fireworks was back at home, at some kind of festival. He was meant to meet up with her but things didn't work out. She left the place before he got there and he ended up watching the fireworks by himself. He recorded it and planned on showing it to her later. He never did.

Now, almost half a year later, it was New Years and the fireworks seemed more like colourful gunfire than festive explosions.

Memories began to flow in along with the emotions that matched them. He was sick of having these flashbacks but his lack of self-control had overthrown him. His stepped on the brakes, causing his head to lurch forward abruptly. Looking in the rear-view mirror, he noticed some blood already beginning to spurt out. His knuckles had gone ghastly white and his teeth began to grind, holding back the urge to scream in agony.

As he reached the highway, he gradually increased his speed:
100...
150...
220...
310...

Lights. Screeching tires. Noise. Lots of noise. Flashes of memories.

Then...

Nothing.
